BOTOX® Medical Treatments

BOTOX®BOTOX® is an FDA approved treatment for chronic facial spasms such as hemifacial spasm and blepharospasm (involving the eyelids). These conditions cause disruptive, intermittent spasms and twitching of muscles around the face. This can severely affect vision causing uncontrollable, involuntary closure of the eyes. It can also cause twitching around the mouth affecting chewing and talking. BOTOX® is a purified botulinum toxin protein. It acts by selectively weakening the action of overactive muscles. Each session requires multiple small injections around the eyes and other affected areas of the face in a pattern tailored to your symptoms. There is no anesthesia required and the entire procedure takes about ten minutes. Each injection is experienced as a small “pinch” and most patients tolerate this well without pain. It usually takes 3-5 days for the onset of symptom relief and repeat injections every 2-4 months are typically required to maintain control of symptoms.

Botox® Treatments for Migraines

BOTOX® has been approved by the FDA for treatment of chronic migraine headaches. Patients with chronic migraine have headaches affecting them more than 15 days a month despite trying multiple medications to control their migraine symptoms. In these patients, treatment with BOTOX® has been proven to be clincally effective in reducing the number of headache days. Each session involves multiple small injections around the front and back of the head in a pattern tailored to your symptoms. Each injection is experienced as a small “pinch” and most patients tolerate the procedure well without pain. It usually takes 3-5 days for the onset of symptom relief and repeat injections every 3 months are typically required to maintain control of symptoms.
