As the eyelid ages and becomes loose, the position of the lower eyelids may become unstable and turn outwards (ectropion) or flip inwards (entropion). When this happens, the eyes may become red, irritated, and painful, and may have secondary tearing. Surgery can be done to tighten the lower lids and/or rotate them back into position. This outpatient surgery will improve the stability of the eyelid position. Since the surgery is performed for reconstructive reasons, it is typically covered by your medical insurance.
